Scotch Broom (Cytisus scoparius). Local gold country legend has it that the gold miners imported mining tools from the UK in the mid-1800s. The tools were packed with dried Scotch Broom branches to protect them. Thus an exotic and invasive new plant was introduced to Northern California.
