The Old Photograph is of my Mom and her four cousins on their ranch by the Greybull river in Meeteetse Wyoming.. Mondays are grateful for the past days and I realize that I am grateful for the past not just in my life but for the hard work and effort of the ones in my family who came before me and made me a secure place to join when I was born. And not just the blood relatives but the community that was already there to give me roots.
“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings.”
Hodding Carter
what a wonderful shot. nicely composed, touching and thoughtful narrative, too. the inclusion of that dog is perfection, as well as the background of books.
Love the photo, the narrative, the quote- I feel the same way about my parents, grandparents, and the community in which we live. I am gathering fruit I did not plant, reaping harvests I did not sow, abiding in a home I did not build. And seeing my children value their roots while yet flying on their own wings. Strong family ties and support are invaluable and irreplacable.
Great shot Dixie! Love the old picture- but you know I love old pictures! Beautiful story about your family and how much you treasure them. I feel the same way about mine.
