Ferd by pandorasecho

Ferd

My yard used to have swing sets and a small roller coaster and a 15 foot round aluminum pool. Now I am looking for natural things to be Thankful for, so I am thankful I live on 2 acres where bears and deer and raccoon come. Well I am NOT thankful for the F-ing raccoons but I like the rest of it. The raccoons got in with the cat one night and killed my blue and gold macaw, but like the fox in the hen house, that is natural, just more natural than I wanted, because the macaw was part of the family for 17 years. Anyway, that was a few years ago. You see I need the thankful4 exercise because I am so good at getting sidetracked by the things I'm angry about.

Ferd is my son's dog, and I am Thankful he comes to visit. He's blind and smashes into everything because like most 1 year olds, he wants to run everywhere.
Nice rural perspective. Fred adds to the picture and looks ready to charge off headlong into the distance - or the nearest fence. Very lush. Wish I had some land again!

Dixie, I know TOTALLY what you feel about raccoons because I feel that way about opposums. Oh. my. gosh! I think they are the worst animal ever because when I was in college I worked at a wildlife rehabilitation center where we'd get lots of small birds - from eggs to fledglings to adults. We had them in cages in a room where we sometimes had to put other injured/young animals and we had a cage of young opposums who were almost ready to be rehabilitated. The opposums got out of their cage, opened several of the bird cages and ate almost all the birds and babies. It was natural, but totally heartbreaking. :'o(

It's not raccoons or opposums for me- it's the neighbors' cats who stalk my bird feeder that tick me off- but again, they are only doing what comes naturally. I've found a rather natural and safe way to deter them too- moth balls. Sounds like Ferd is a happy fellow! Nice shot.

Love the natural setting, Dixie & Ferd fits right in. You do have quite a variety of wildlife visiting you, that's for sure!
