After living my life with a music teacher as a husband, and having a brother who was deaf until he had surgery at five, and teaching special ed. Including deaf students, and having deaf friends, I have had many occasions to consider how much I value being able to hear and how broken it would feel to have that access to music and communication fail.
I lost the hearing in one ear a year ago, doctors have no explanation for it either. I certainly appreciate the fact that I can still hear with the other ear. I also have dodgy eyesight so I always try never to take anything for granted. I joked with a friend last year when my hearing went that I'm now half blind, half deaf but at least I can still laugh!
Wonderful collage, Dixie. I have watched Mr. Holland's Opus and seen from it how difficult it can be. I cannot imagine my life without being able to hear music as my husband loves it, my son has played Jazz since he was in middle school. I never take it for granted. So glad your brother was able to have corrective surgery.
Like you when you changed your viewing habits concerning scary movies, I hadn't thought much about losing my hearing until my boys were little. Then I realized if I lost my hearing I'd never be able to hear them giggle again or whisper "I love you Mom!". All the senses are a gift from God and none should be taken for granted. Great collage for awareness!
