Realizing that a hard frost is coming soon, I decided to visit our botanical gardens to see what might still be in bloom. I was surprised by how many flowers there were, and ended up going on a bit of a flower photo binge!
The blackened background of this shot happened naturally and took me by surprise. A result like this reminds me of how much I have to learn. I am not yet able to reliably anticipate the result before I take a shot. It would be wonderful to view lighting conditions and know exactly how to react to them and harness their potential in an image. Something to strive for...
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments on my "Just Passing Through" shot yesterday!
Absolutely gorgeous. Wonderful on the black background. It's all about experimenting--I think you have learned so very much--and I learn from your shots.
Fantastic image Lisa ... intentional or not but the light in this is perfect!! Coincidentally your words around the 'blackened' background mirrored what I have been thinking over the last few days in terms of reliably anticipating and getting results the way I expect ... especially with the lighting!! This one though is a Fav!!
@jankoos Thank you, Jan! No, I wasn't using a tripod. It was in the middle of the day so plenty of lighting. I believe that just behind this flower was an area of shade so I guess that is why I got this result. I took so many photos at the gardens that day that it is hard for me to remember the exact conditions. :)
How dramatic! I love that you got the blackened background by surprise . . . and that you are trying to figure it out. I learned SO MUCH this past weekend being with Taffy and Michael and I am always grateful for all the learning opportunities that 365 presents.
I know exactly what you mean - I sometimes take a shot and when I look at it later wonder how on earth it ended up like that (which unfortunately means when it's a good one I'm not sure how to build on it!) This is lovely - dark backgrounds, intentional or not, are wonderful for dahlias
