I participated in a photo walk with a local photography meet-up group yesterday. One of the other photographers was so generous to swap cameras with me so that I could try his Canon EOS 6D and Tamron 70-200 mm f/2.8 lens. What a step up from my equipment! I took this practice shot from quite a distance and was impressed with the color and clarity of the pumpkins and the smooth background bokeh.
Wonderful composition and great DOF. I do own that lens which is absolutely fantastic in quality but somehow rarely use t as it is so heavy. Must make the effort to take it out more
That was very kind of him - and this is a great capture - love the bokeh, too.
I would love to upgrade my equipment too - but it isn't in the cards this year.
How great to have the opportunity to try out that camera, very kind of him. This is a really good shot as always Lisa right down to the cobweb on the stem.
I have the 70-200 f2.8, it is just fabulous for portraits, with dreamy backgrounds, and bokeh. But you have to be careful of the very shallow DOF wide open.
@happysnap Thank you, Linda! The weight was a shocker to me! Honestly, I don't know if I could see myself lugging that kind of lens around for my photo wanderings. I took a series of shots with my arms raised in a rather awkward position and I started to feel weak and shake a bit from the weight. Probably means I need to hit the gym more, but still... a lens like that is commitment on many levels - financial and convenience! It did produce great images though!
@fishy Thank you for sharing your experience, Andrew. I can see what you mean. Obviously there is a learning curve with a lens like this. A shallow DOF is not right for all shots.
@timandelke Thank you, Elke. The lens produced some great results for me in just the short time I used it. The only drawback in my mind (besides financial!) was the weight of it. Definitely something I would have to get used to!
@roseolivia I agree with you, Rachel! The lens was terribly heavy! I think that would be a real consideration for me, too. The results are great though. Thank you for your comment!
Beautiful comp & lovely lighting, awesome combination but agree that f/2.8 weighs a ton, you should try the f/4 which is just as awesome sharpness-wise but weighs a lot less!
isn't it amazing what a nice lens can produce!! but I hear you, i call myself a lazy photographer because I don't like to carry around big lenses, especially when I shoot my kids sporting events. that being said, you've captured a lovely fall image. very pretty bokeh.
I would love to upgrade my equipment too - but it isn't in the cards this year.
But you have a good eye Lisa and that's what really counts!
