Canyon Vista by pflaume

Canyon Vista

My photography meet up group visited a hydro electric dam on the weekend. This was taken inside the power plant looking out to the canyon and river landscape. It's a three shot HDR, processed in Nik Silver FX. I opted for B&W as the interior walls were a distracting green and red. The monochrome brought a calm to what was a confusing shot in color.
Love the shot and great textures:)

Freaking. Amazing. Fav for me.

I'm up in the air about what to do. Funny I just said that because I literally am 35,000 feet over TN and only now finding time for my project. I'm taking photos most days, but I'm too lazy to process and post. I've been even worse with Flickr because I still don't know my way around the site yet.

Excellent.

Love the framing in this shot and the breathtaking image in the window. Thanks for updating us on where you're at in this project. I can relate to the overwhelm, yet the inability to let go completely. Nonetheless, you've made such an impact on the 365 community! Thanks for whatever contributions you continue to make. It's just nice to see your latest touch of brilliance

Love this shot!

So dramatic with an old Timey feel. A fave for me!

Love this shot, you put a lot of thought and time into it and it shows. I always love to see your work but I totally understand how it would be hard to keep up with it only periodically. But I don't think you should feel guilty about that. Everyday I tell myself this should be my last day, don't know why I am still here. I have so much to do in my personal life and so much to learn photography wise. Are there places around there where you can show your talent versus 365? I think you definitely need that outlet, you are to good to not be able to share in some way that gives you positive feed back.

Wonderful tones Lisa. Really well done! Fav

I think I have said this before but you may convince me yet to try HDR! I always think it looks really fake but then … this looks really good!!

Well for folks like me new to following your project I am selfishly hoping you will keep posting, even now and then, just so I can check out your awesome work :)
May 22nd, 2014
This is quite surreal, I love it! And please don't stop, your work is one of the most inspiring on here and due to this I would always comment regardless on whether it was ever reciprocated or not.
May 22nd, 2014
Wonderful sgot, wonderful processing! Don´t worry about the commenting, people come to see your pics cos they like them. You shouldn´t feel guilty about commenting, some people only post once a week and only comment once a week, you do what feels good for you.

Love it, fav!

Fabulous shot! I understand your feelings, Lisa. I've felt the same way a few times. But what keeps me going is knowing that I'd miss everyone if I stopped. You have much to teach us and we all look forward to your posts, so please continue, in any way you can.

Fav, I really love this, great composition and processing. Don't worry about feeling guilty or anything silly like that. Your project is for you and we love seeing your shots. I see this community as a way of learning and grabbing inspiration from others too, so that's what your project does. :)

Instant fav! Love the composition and the view

Wonderful shot.

@cmc1200 Thank you, Caryn! I am in the same boat. Taking photos but being lazy about processing and posting. I can't believe how disciplined I was during my project to do it (mostly) daily. Seems impossible now! I haven't figured out Flickr either. Another thing on my to do list! You must be traveling. Hope it's a pleasure trip! Enjoy! Thanks again for your comment.

@sansjuan Thank you for your comment, Nita. And, thank you for always dropping by to visit and offer your praise and encouragement. I really appreciate it! I do think it's hard to dabble on this website. My approach now is so different than it was during my project. The daily shooting, editing, posting and interacting here became the standard and now anything less feels like a failure. I recently joined Flickr as another outlet for sharing my photos, but it's very different. I don't know my way around and there isn't the sense of community that the 365 Project has. I am glad you are still here although I understand the pull away to other things. You might consider taking a break? That can be a great way to recharge and reinspire.
May 22nd, 2014
Such a thoughtful and creative shot. Please don't drop out Lisa! It's good to see your superb shots when you get time. I've been less committed lately, and that seems to be the same for lots of people.

@aliha Thank you, Alison! Honestly, I am not a fan of the exaggerated look of some HDR processing, although there are exceptions for the right shot. In general, I like a more natural looking scene. I just love what HDR can offer to allow you to capture the entire dynamic range - in this case getting detail both inside and outside the window. It's super easy, too. Give it a try! (By the way, you can download a trial of Photomatix for free and try it out. You can use the software for as long as you want. It just puts a watermark on the image until you buy it. I think I mentioned I went with the cheapest option - the $29 Lightroom Plugin and I am very happy with it.

woww!!! beautiful shot Lisa! you never disappoint me
May 22nd, 2014
@cazla Cazla, thank you for your comment and encouragement. i really appreciate you! I guess it's about adjusting expectations and just being OK with doing this project differently than I did in year one. Have you decided what you are going to do after you complete your year? I do hope you are staying on!!!

Wonderful B&W shot, Lisa.

@pflaume It is good to hear you are on Flickr. I am sure you will sort it all out and enjoy it as well once you have given it some time. Though I do agree that the community and support we find here is exceptional. I think even if you keep doing 365 on an occasional basis you will find that support. But like you, for me it seems to be all or nothing. I do think I will take a break, probably starting by the weekend. I just have so much going on at home and company is coming in a couple of weeks and will last through most of June. As for your questions about the green around me - we have lots of it still. Most of the farm fields are green though you still see some just dirt ones - that makes for some interesting patterns. I was down there about two weeks ago and the mountains around Riggins and Whitebird are starting to turn brown but there was still a lot of beauty along there and the river. It truly is a beautiful drive all the way up to Moscow. I think the map your ordered will take you to wonderful scenes, they are all in Washington's Whitman County. That county starts just outside of Moscow to the West. And even some of their small towns are just miles from here? Are you planning to go to Steptoe Butte? How long do you plan to spend in the area?
May 23rd, 2014
Did I give you my phone and email? When you are heading into Grangeville there is a cut off Road called Johnson or Johnston, on that road there is a group of run down farm buildings. One has almost fallen all the way down. It is easy to pull off into their little field, it is on the left.
I think you could do some amazing shots around there. I am trying to think of some things for you to watch for. I will keep you posted.

That's a fav Lisa! Fantastic shot and processing.
May 23rd, 2014
Excellent Lisa! I've been on Flickr just over a year now but will be transferring somewhere else in the future. A huge amount of people left when Getty didn't renew their contract so many don't see the reason to post there anymore. Most people are on 500px.

Wow, Stunning capture. Love the processing.

@kass Hi Kass, thank you for the tip. I just checked out 500 px. Stunning images there - almost a bit intimidating to me. :) Definitely lots to admire and learn there.
May 26th, 2014
I like the b&w and the subtlety of the hdr - they bring out the forms, tones and textures really well. Great compsition and crop as well.
May 26th, 2014
Love the tones and textures that the HDR highlights.
Great view through the window!

Love the b&w processing.
May 29th, 2014
Well done- and I definitely think you made the right choice by going with b/w. This really lets us see the view through the window. In color we'd be thinking, "Who decided these colors go together?"!
May 29th, 2014
so well composed!
