Anne, Princess Royal and Princess of Orange by photohoot

Anne, Princess Royal and Princess of Orange

Created by Jan Baptist Xavery (Flemish, 1697 - 1742). This is Anne Princess Royal and Princess of Orange (British, 1709 - 1759)
Dated 1736.
In 1734, the English princess Anne married the Dutch William IV, Prince of Orange-Nassau, and moved to the royal court of the Netherlands at The Hague. This portrait, made shortly after her marriage, is made from terracotta, a fired red clay. Modeling in clay is to sculptors what drawing on paper is to painters. This bust is a preparatory study for a marble bust (now Mauritshuis, The Hague). The model may have been presented to the sitter for approval before the work in less forgiving, more costly marble begun.
Lovely image and I learned history and art. Thank you
