Tom Thompson bronze statue

Sculpted by Brenda Wainman Goulet in 2005 this bronze Tom Thomson statue and his canoe is an iconic tribute to this artist’s connection to his time spent in both Huntsville and Algonquin Provincial Park. Located just steps from Main St in front of the Algonquin Theatre, this larger than life statue is a favourite spot for having your picture taken. Surrounded by Muskoka granite slabs that are perfectly placed to walk your way up to Tom, it provides the ideal vignette for a solo or group shot. Tom is depicted deep in thought, holding his Pochade Box which is a compact artist’s kit designed for those who paint outdoors (many kids think that it’s his laptop!) Take a closer look at this component and you’ll see he is working on one of his most famous pieces “The West Wind”. His overturned canoe suggests that he has paddled in from camp and is deep in thought as he contemplates the stunning landscape ahead. Tom is often dressed for the season so depending on when you visit, he may be seen wearing a scarf or other accessories.(Wikipedia)
