@brumbe - thanks so much. I always think my greatest strength is in composition and I had such doubts about just that factor in this one. Moving the diamond more to the center did help the balance which still can't be perfected at the same time as maintaining the pretty rust patch and squiggly ripple of the bar on the post. If I'd thought of it, I'd have posted this as a discussion asking for critique. I really do appreciate it when people offer suggestions though I know they are hesitant without a specific request, as am I when looking at others' photos. Loved your input and it's always welcome.
@nanalisarocks Thanks Lisa! The crop was subtle because I didn't have much room to play with it. Just moved the diamond shape more to the center to try to better balance the weight of the post on the left. I think it really improved it.
yes, it gives it a much better balance even by playing just a little bit. I once heard that you should not have to crop because you take the time to compose correctly. I on the other hand have to remind myself to step out just a touch on the zoom or framing to ensure I have a bit of wriggle room for straightening.
This is a really good composition. The reflections are lovely and the lower part of the picture would be fine on its own. But the upper part part of the diamond construction to gives it another dimension and makes a great picture.
