Congregation Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim was established in 1749 by European Jews who came to the colony seeking civil and religious liberty as well as economic opportunity. Housed in a magnificent Greek Revival building in historic Charleston, it is the second oldest synagogue building in continuous use in the U.S.
We were fortunate to tour and learn of the history of the Jewish community's involvement in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.
Charleston already!! I hope you are having a wonderful time. One of these days I would love to visit the Carolinas, and spring is probably the best time for it! This looks like a very well maintained building from a few centuries ago!
