Mono Lake, located just off Highway 395 near Lee Vining, is one of the oldest lakes in the western hemisphere. There are no fish in the saline waters. In fact, it's 2-1/2 times as salty as the ocean and provides a habitat for millions of birds that feed on its brine shrimp. The visitor's center is well worth a visit, with exhibits on the formation of the lake, Native American history and the habitat.
Love the colour of the water. Reminds me of Salt Lake in Cyprus. Flamingos used to migrate there for the summer to feed on the shrimp in the salty brine.
