Kyoto is probably one of the best places in Japan to be immersed in the Geisha culture of Japanese dance, music and communication. Young women move to Kyoto to learn hospitality and communication skills in the hopes of becoming an apprentice.
If they are talented and determined, some eventually graduate to Geisha or Geiko status. I was fortunate to spend an entire day with this beautiful Geiko who posed for us under the cherry trees. How she walked on the cobblestone paths in those shoes all day long mystified me.
