The finale of our trip to South America was a four-day visit to Easter Island, one of the most remote inhabited islands on the planet. Located 2300 miles off the cost of Chile, it's probably best known for its archaeological sites that feature some 900 iconic carved stone figures with oversize heads known as Moai. Researchers have different theories about how the massive statues were moved around the island and why they were placed in certain positions. Some say the Moai face the summer and winter solstice; others think they were strategically located to point the way to drinkable water. They made great photo subjects in their tropical setting so I plan to post more shots this week to fill out my calendar.
