Worked with the peak park ranger at school today, which meant the children were allowed in the 'big trees' (that's the conservation area, I planted the trees when I was at the school 22 years ago!). We did a bit of maintenance and let the year ones (age 5-6) cut down a few stray branches and then cut them into small sticks for a future project. I love ranger days, I'm going to miss them when I leave. I often wish I'd done a different degree and become a park ranger or worked for the RSPB or something. If only I knew where my interests really lay 10 years ago, before I went to uni!

yes, sadly. Never mind though, I have a qualification to do this sort of work with children so maybe when I'm teaching I can make myself opportunities for Forest School, and I may not work in it, but the countryside is on the doorstep so I can always play in it :)
I count it as a plus of growing older to have the opportunity to spend time outdoors. In fact, the older I get the more important the natural world becomes -- just can't stay inside!
