the inner workings

Last week, one of my hard drives developed a fault - the one I keep all my photos on - but I had backed up recently and I was able to back up again before disaster struck. I ordered a new drive which arrived this morning so I replaced the broken one this evening. I actually like it when I need to go inside the computer as it means I have valid reason to take it apart and clean it! I hate the dust build up in there so I'm very happy now I have a new, non-faulty drive, safe photos and a clean computer, inside and out!
Rather you than me well done

Looks like a beast of a machine - I like getting inside as well, they do attract dust :)

You need to cable tie some of those cables up - they block air flow and make the computer run hotter.

Of course, you maybe already do that.

Lucky you had backed up.

@leighton22 @jennywren @padlock @malc @iwatts @dh

Thanks all. It's not hard to do at all as our computers are self built - my Dave has always worked in IT so there's nothing he doesn't know how to do! I only go inside my machine under his supervision!

Malc - it's powerful enough for my needs but not a patch on Dave's as I don't play games and he does!

Ian - thanks for the advice, but yes the cables are all tied and tidy. I've got three big fans on there too which helps keep things cool

I used to build my own computers as well... now I only have laptops and tablets! Maybe I should build a "super computer" again just for photo editing ;-)

Nice shot.

I wouldn't have a clue about the insides of a computer.
