A spitfire, a hurricane and two Lancasters flew over the Derwent Dam this afternoon, travelling back from an air show at Southport to their base at RAF Coningsby. Dave had to work until 2 today so we arrived late and the spitfire and hurricane flew over us earlier than expected, as we were driving along a road, but we parked in a field and started walking to a suitable vantage point and found ourselves in the right place at the right time for the two Lancasters - they flew right over our head and then looped around for a second fly by before heading off :)
@barrowlane You'll have to look out for them at airshows perhaps. They were just on their way back from one today and of course, as they practised the bouncing bombs on the Derwent Dam, they had to include it in their route I guess. Lucky for me and everyone else who turned up and caused chaos on the roads (but I expect made the landlord of the local pub very happy!).
@gamelee I only found out on Thursday, through twitter, it wasn't publicised really but even so, the roads were chaos and it was heaving with people, all out to see them! A shame you missed the Derbyshire viewing, but at least you got to see them (and a lot more besides I'm sure!) at the airshow.
Wonderful capture, fav. How great to see these old planes. I saw and heard a Lancaster fly over us during a Remembrance Day event in Toronto last November 11th.
What good luck and great capture. We had a Vulcan bomber fly over the bowls club the other evening from a nearby air show but didn't have my camera and couldn't get it on my phone! It was a great sight.
