Awoke to the disappointing discovery that we'd had maybe 2mm of snow overnight so no chance of a snow day! There were a few flurries that didn't amount to anything and then, all of a sudden the snow came down thick and fast and covered everything and school decided to close at about 11:45, but we had to give the children lunch and allow time for parents to collect them so it wasn't until 1ish that school actually closed. I was allowed to leave at 12:40 as I live further away than many staff. The traffic on the roads was really slow going, even though road conditions were ok for driving with care (I took main/minor roads rather than my little lanes) so I didn't get home much earlier than I would have if we hadn't closed early. This was taken soon after I arrived home.
It has snowed more since... I'm really hoping it'll snow again early in the morning, say between 5am and 10am, so I can have a 3 day weekend ;)
Fingers crossed for lots of snow! When I was a young teacher if your comprehensive school had a snow day you ere duty bound to volunteer t the nearest primary school, which never shut!
@pennystot I believe that still applies, but no one does it and as this is a rural, and quite high/hilly, part of the world generally all or most of the schools close anyway so there isn't one to volunteer at! I worked at the same school for 12 years and never knew that, it was only when read policies or something recently in my new job I found out!
Wow! It's an amazing sight! As I live on the coast in Australia we never have snow so it's wonderful to see how other people live. Thanks for sharing :)
Beautiful snow scene, and although you didn't arrive home much earlier, at least you had a shorter work day. I remember, before I retired, longing for snow days, but the University of Toronto doesn't give them much in recent years, except for outlying campuses.
