30 Days Wild - Day 24

A female scorpion fly in a meadow.

I went on a really good walk with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust this evening looking at meadow and limestone grassland flowers. Very interesting - I learned a lot and saw leeches, newts and a water scorpion! I did some bug spotting too - seeing the fly above and my first grasshoppers of the year :)

Only certain people (usually the ones that end up being my friends) get excited about seeing flies and leeches. Very nice picture.

@flowerfairyann Yes I think they are quite common. It's really easy to tell the males and females apart as the male ones have tail claspers which make them look scorpion like - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panorpa_communis
