My last day at work by roachling

My last day at work

We ran a Forest School summer holiday club this week and ended the week sitting around a fire with s'mores, also doing some whittling and practising lighting little fires with the fire steels.

I cannot believe how much I've loved this job. When my boss at the Wildlife Trust phoned me in January to offer me the work, I almost turned it down, thinking I wasn't the right person for this job, that I couldn't do it and I was also put off by where I'd be based too (the trust rented the office and garage space needed for the project at a council depot). It turned out to be the best job I've ever had. I didn't have a single morning waking up not wanting to go to work and to my surprise, I loved sharing an office / yard with some council guys (they were so pleasant and friendly).

After a miserable 4 years in my previous school, this job has been a confidence boost and it was good for me to experience working life outside the classroom (I went straight from college to working in school so it's all I've ever known). I did find the full time hours tough as it left me little time for other things, but I'm so glad to have had this opportunity. The Wildlife Trust really wanted to keep the three Forest School Officers on and did try to get more funding, but none of the bids were successful this time. Who knows though, they bid for funding whenever an opportunity comes up so we're all crossing our fingers for another Forest School project in the future.

Mmm, these look good. Sorry to hear it was your last session but hopefully something similar will turn up in the near future. It sounds as though it was perfect for you.

It's so nice to read that you've enjoyed this job -especially when you sound like you've had a tough time at work for a few years. And I've heard about these s'mores but this is the first time I've seen one.... :)
