Short Horned Lizard by robv

Short Horned Lizard

Phrynosoma hernandesi the Shot Horned Lizard, this is a juvenile about 2-4 weeks old. This species and P. douglassi are live bearing, the eggs develop inside the female and babies are born fully developed. The higher elevation habitat they occupy has too short a warm season for eggs to mature in the soil. They also have a greater variety of insects in their diet than the lower elevation species who are ant feeding specialists.
