This is the bow of the Cutty Sark, under the glass roof of the visitor centre. The Cutty Sark was built in Scotland in 1869, and was named after the witch in Robert Burns' poem Tam o' Shanter. It was involved in shipping tea from China and wool from Australia, until steam ships became a faster and more profitable means of transporting goods. The Cutty Sark has been in dry dock in Greenwich since 1954, but was nearly destroyed in a fire in 2007. Since then it has undergone considerable restoration, and is an impressive landmark by the Thames.
