This is the dormitory where Benedictine monks slept at Battle Abbey. The Abbey was built on the site where King Harold died at the Battle of Hastings, as a sign of penance by William the Conqueror. In 1538, parts were torn down during the suppression of the monasteries, but the Abbot's lodging became a country house, and is now an independent school.
If you have the opportunity to visit, it is a fantastic day out - there is so much to see, and you can walk the former battlefield.
