This is the Memorial Wing of the former Nelson Hospital in Merton. The hospital opened in 1912, and the new wing was added in 1921 to commemorate the soldiers from Merton who died in the First World War. I am a product of its former maternity ward, but the building was recently converted into a medical practice.
This is a great reminder of different times. I know that there were a number of hospitals built like this around the time of the First World War - I used to work in a Trust that managed one. They are very special places.
