Adam Street

These beautiful doors are from the Adelphi buildings in Westminster, built in the 1770s by the architect Robert Adam, and his brothers James and John. It was an ambitious development of 24 houses that nearly bankrupted the family. Some of the houses were demolished in the 1930s to make way for an art deco office block that is named New Adelphi as a nod to its neoclassical predecessors.
They are lovely doors. They don't make 'em like that any more!
