Polesden Lacey is a National Trust house and estate near Dorking, Surrey. The first house on the site originated from the 14th century, but in 1824, a new house was built by the owner. In 1906 it was bought for Mrs Margaret Greville, by her father who had founded the McEwan brewery. It was extensively remodelled and decorated by the architects who designed the Ritz Hotel in London.
Mrs Greville was extremely well connected to politicians and members of the Royal Family. The future George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, spent part of their honeymoon at Polesden Lacey in 1923.
