Saw this chap in the garden today. His one leg looks lame but he did not seem at all bothered by the fact that he only has one usable leg! When eating seeds off the ground every so often he would open his left wing and place the tip on the ground for balance.
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.
Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
@olivetreeann@egad This guy is a common resident in our area, seen daily. In fact they will sit in the trees around the house and make such a racket demanding seeds get put out. This is a breeding male, the females and non breeding males have only the slightest hint of yellow, don't have the black mask and eyes are not as bright a red.
Beautiful shot and handsome looking bird. Looks quite healthy so his leg must not be too much of a problem. Living things have a great ability to overcome adversities and find their balance in life.
@salza Ok for your challenge I would like to see some photos taken from Groot Winterhoek Mountains which looks down into the valley where you live. Often you take photos of the mountains looking up from the valley or Tulbagh, but not of the magnificent views which must be up there. I noticed you have taken photos on pass across to Ceres but these don't look down into valley or along the line and fall of the mountain range to show how these rise from the valley steeply. I imagine that from up on high one could see the fields and vineyards. Ironically we drank a South African Shriaz last night. If this challenge is too difficult or weather is no good, perhaps a low key still life.
@peterdegraaff This should be doable. Will just get permission to go onto some of the farms at the top end of the valley! The weather is due to clear so that shouldn't pose a problem either. We made some Shiraz last year (also made Pinotage) both are rather splendid, even if I say so myself!
@myautofocuslife Livia, from what I could see the leg is just totally lame with no obvious sign of injury and he really did not seem at all bothered by the fact that he only has one good leg! He was also chasing other birds away from the seeds that we had thrown down and he was eating!
