@maggiemae it is a gate post. There is a gate to the left. The wire fencing to the right has been cut thereby allowing the combine harvester access to the field.

@golftragic in my mind the harvest is later this year. If I remember correctly the crop is usually harvested, baled and stored by the end of October. The apparent lack of bales is just due to the angle of the picture and the lie of the land - there's a dip behind the visible bales.
