@briaan I looked it up. It's a Scots word for a slope or a brow of a hill.

This looks very interesting. Can you explain what this was built for? Was it accommodation or defence?

@marshwader these are the remains of houses, built in a tight group with corridors around and between them and the roofing over the top like a mound. Both would act as protection from the elements and as defence.
What you can see in the photo from the left is a box bed with storage in the wall, a hearth in the centre with what they refer to as a dresser behind it for storing and displaying as we do now and another box bed on the right.
