Manchester Tree of Remembrance

Among all the real trees in Picaddilly Gardens, in the centre of Manchester, there is this metal tree - most people seem to walk past without noticing. I only spotted it for the first time recently.

Lots of names are engraved into the trunk, and at the bottom there is a small plaque to say that it commemorates all the Manchester civilians who were killed during WWII.

I've had a google, and have found a bit of information about the tree here: http://www.manchestergalleries.org/the-collections/public-art/tree-of-remembrance/
Great photo and what a striking monument. I love the fact that it clearly blends so well into the background though.

Nice work Sarah, you've done justice the the tree.

I that a tram wire or is it part of the structure on the left hand side of the frame?

Thanks for your comments! I did take a pic of this a couple of weeks ago when I first noticed it, but it was a typical dull grey Manchester day - it looks much better against a blue sky!!

Phil - I think the wire is part of the system of twinkly lights that are set up in the (real) trees.
