One of the reasons I originally got into photography in my 20s was that I rarely liked photos of me - I didn't like me much at all - and, if I was behind the camera taking the photos, then I was much less likely to have to be in front of the camera, appearing in them.
I've been doing some dusting today, including taking down old photo albums from the shelves, and inevitably looking through them. It's interesting to realise that I can now look at the photos of younger me with much more acceptance and kindness than I could at the time. It is also sad to recognise how much of my life I've spent not liking how I look, though. (I still don't think I'm ready to do a month of self-portraits!!)
Most of these are from my student days, some from my childhood, and the large shot in the centre is from my 40th birthday party a few years ago. I went for a low-tech approach of arranging them on the carpet then taking a photo, so the quality of some of the photos isn't great!
AWWW very good theorpy then Sarah i sont much like being in front of a camera either you can as Dani that lol so understand this totally ..good for you :
@rainbowsnic42 Thanks, Nic - yes, it does feel therapeutic to be looking back with different eyes. Brings up lots of different feelings, though ..
@eosin@patticake Thanks - it did feel a bit brave/nervy uploading this - I hesitated for a while before actually hitting the 'OK' button!
@moominmomma Thanks, Lesley! The one that is very bottom-right is me in fancy dress as a schoolgirl, when I was working on a holiday campsite during my university summer holiday! The one next to it, in the sleeveless t-shirt, is probably one of my favourite photos of me ever - from my hippy, dippy, rock-chick days :o)
@phil_howcroft Thanks, Phil. Btw, only about a third of the originals are in b&w, and I thought the whole montage looked better converted into b&w :o)
