Kaki fruit! by sarahhorsfall

Kaki fruit!

I called into the asian supermarket after work, and spotted a sign for 'Kaki fruit'. I've not heard of them before, so thought I'd buy one for my 'occasional fruit series' on here!

I've had a google, and found out that Diospyros kaki, better known as the Japanese Persimmon, Kaki Persimmon (kaki [柿]) or Asian Persimmon in North America, is the most widely cultivated species of the Diospyros genus. Although its first published botanical description was not until 1780, the kaki is also among the oldest plants in cultivation, known for its use in China for more than 2000 years.

So, there ya go! I've yet to actually taste it - getting a photo was the first priority :o)
I think these are also called Sharon Fruit, I ate them as a child and loved them. Not had one since. I hope you enjoy it ;-)

sarah i do like the 'occasional fruit series'......it's skin looks very very smooth .....you will have to show what is inside the fruit .....and of course let us know what it tastes like.

See I've given you your shot for tomorrow :) oh and with the manc tree to come too ...see you are almost through to the weekend with shots now...and then it's bonfire night ....so sarah's shots sorted until sunday :)

when the kids were little every time we went to the grocery store I would let each of them pick out a new fruit or vegetable that we had never tried before!! Some of it was good and some was terrible!! we had great fun trying them though!! :) thanks for bringing back the memory!! :)
