Today is Day 212 of the 365 Project. Since 212 is New York City's area code, I decided to make today's shot an homage to the City where I was born and that I still consider to be my home.
The bracelet on the left is made from a variety of New York City subway tokens that were used in the pre-Metrocard years. On the right are earrings that are made from tokens as well as a necklace made from a token that my daughter gave me for my birthday last year.
In the center is the token-shaped medal I received for finishing the 2010 New York City Half Marathon. That was my first Team McGraw race, and a stepping stone towards my running the 2010 New York City Marathon.
I remember using subway tokens when I first came to New York for college and when we subsequently lived in the City after law school. I loved the feel of them in my pocket, and they were convenient to use. While I understand that time and technology march ahead, I do miss the old tokens.
Two years ago I would have said the same thing about the Marathon, but I ran my first half marathon in September 2009 and things just kept rolling from there.
Thanks Kerri :)
Thanks Michelle :)
