the dark side

Sean had the brilliant idea to go out today.
'It will be fun', he said. 'I have to get an architecture shot', he said.
I don't think we were even there for 5 minutes until both of us were frozen solid. My hand hurt so badly I had to stick it in my armpit to revive it.

Note to self (and Sean)...it isn't a brilliant idea to go shoot across from, or in, open fields when the windchill is -23.

It was worth it though. I've always wanted to shoot this church, he got his shot and my hand never did fall off.
Lovely blue sky today and we both blacked it out...weird.

This looks stunning. The lighting is beautiful!!! Wonderful shot Jenn!!!

Very impressive! Totally worth going out into that cold...I feel with you its super cold here too. How did you process this to get a black sky like that?
January 25th, 2013
Really dramatic processing!
January 25th, 2013
very cool... nice editing
January 25th, 2013
love your perspective and the comp... i'm the queen of off-kilter and yeah, this looks like it's canting ever so slightly down to the right... but then, i think that's how i see the world... if everyone else is seeing it straight, maybe there's hope for me yet!

as for the cold - no comment... the things one does for art!
January 25th, 2013
great shot
January 25th, 2013
the liney up things in LR go right up the centre of the path and all the way up the steeple....straight but still looks wonky. A bit of bendy from the lens perhaps? @northy
January 25th, 2013
I have a preset on LR called Black....and from there I played with the light. I wouldn't have any idea how to do it on my own ;) @synke
January 25th, 2013
i like it - alot! It doesn't look real.
January 25th, 2013
who knows... do you do the lens correction thing in LR?
January 25th, 2013
Very strong.
January 25th, 2013
I decided to just work inside, then play inside with old photo and wait for the weekend warm up. And I think the colder it is the bluer the sky seems.
January 25th, 2013
I never thought of it till now. I think I've only played with that once. I had my polariser on and got crazy vignette while shooting wide. I think I was more concerned about getting rid of that than the wonkiness. That, and I'm just tired and gave up :) @northy
January 25th, 2013
well, there's a one click aspect to lens correction where LR figures out what lens you are using (!!!) and does something... sometimes i can see the difference (and it is almost always an improvement), and sometimes i can't... so now i try to remember to click on it just to see...
January 25th, 2013
Nice shot! Dramatic!
January 25th, 2013
hmmm, I've noticed the one click option. Must look @northy
January 25th, 2013

January 25th, 2013
@shutterbugger oooh, ok, I was wondering how it had such a big front lawn! lol
January 25th, 2013
great story, wonderful dedication to your craft, and fabulous shot Jenn, very dramatic!!!
January 25th, 2013
Very dramatic, almost a little spooky with the dark sky and shadows on the church and front lawn. Nicely done.
January 25th, 2013
Wow...looks amazing in b&w...very dramatic.
January 25th, 2013
Oh wow, Jenn...the effort paid off, my friend. I keep scrolling up from typing my comment to look at it again. It's Strong, if that makes sense! Gotta scroll up again so hang on.............(seriously)............OK, I'm back.....I swear my childlike imagination was waiting for a big lightning bolt to strike in the background! -23 windchill? The coldest I've ever been was -14 while visiting in Canada. I swear I haven't been the same since I experienced that! hahah! AWESOME SHOT. Gotta Fav Pronto!

January 25th, 2013
Like this- definite light & shade!
January 25th, 2013
Perfect subject for an architectural shot Jenn! I love the light & shade on the steeple, worth your cold hands I think!!!
January 25th, 2013
It's bad for people and equipment when it's that cold. I like this photo--looks a bit creepy
January 26th, 2013
Stunning shot, nice crop and pov =)
January 26th, 2013
Great processing...it gives it that ominous look. I wish my husband was into photography.
January 29th, 2013
Thanks Stacey! My husband doesn't know the first thing about photography....Sean is my husbands brother:) Works out perfect. It's not weird when we hang out and when Chad wants to buy me something, Sean knows exactly what I have, what I need and what I want as far as gear goes...and vice versa! @newbie @slang
January 29th, 2013
Amazing contrasts. Striking image!
