I have been fascinated with this ever since I first saw it twenty years ago. It's nestled in the North Wilts countryside, only about a mile from the Stone Circle at Avebury, but stands out like a sore thumb due its man-made, symmetrical shape. Well over 100 feet high, and nearly five thousand years, its use is still unknown - making it even more mystical.
At this time of year, the land to the side floods, giving a nice 'reflection' opportunity. I reckon its quite hard to photograph and do it justice, as it can just look like a mound of earth - hopefully this is a reasonable attempt.
Kev, great shot with the reflection and azure skies, you certainly captured it well. I can remember back in the day (showing my age) walking up it, before they closed her to public access. West Kennet Long Barrow is close by, like visiting that too.
Wow! Never seen Silbury with water surrounding it. I used to climb this when I was a boy (and when it was still allowed). I still climb it from time to time as my way of rebelling against the "Keep off!" signs.
@paul2782@ch1ppy_m1nton@steampowered Thanks all. It's been flooing for a few years now, and the whole of the Kennet Valley is flooded at the minute with the recent snowfall. As for the Long Barrow, I've got designs on that for 365!
