This sun dial was a present from Helen to her Dad.We set it up on one of the saddle stones, these were used at one time to hold up wooden grain stores to keep the rats out.
I want to know how sun dials work when the sun isn't out, they just don't , bit daft that considering the weather we get! Also want to know why it says 'the best 18 yet to be' ??? Nice photo, good choice for theme and I just thought they were huge stone mushrooms (not really, but then again I didn't know about the rat thing!).
great shadow shot. you should tag it for this week's theme. sundials have always interested me. and i noticed that the roman numeral four in this is IIII and not IV =)
That's funny that we were thinking on the same sun-dial theme...I might try again tomorrow if the sun comes out - this has come out really well. I didn't know that those stone mushrooms had actually ever had an actually purpose, either - other than just looking like big stone mushrooms and stopping me driving my car over front lawn - very educational.
actually I just noticed the chap with the scythe on there looks a bit like the grim reaper - sorry about that! Did I really just get it for Dad? I think you can share it if you like!
hahaha...you guys (Mom and daughters ;-) are "talking so much" I can't get a word in edgewise....I got a "kick" out of Jane's comment about having a sundial in a place known for the lack of sunshine...and then it was cool that Rainee is so sharp that she noticed the Roman Numeral 4 still being IIII (and I know she is not related) ...and then I got a little chuckle (sorry Jane) about the word IS not 18...we old folks recognize those old sayings...and Helen telling you you can share the sundial with her dad....you all are so funny! And finally, of course a sun dial is the perfect subject for this week's theme.
Great photo and a good idea. My neighbor has a sundial which I have been thinking about, but everyday when I go out the sun has already set behind the house which shades it.
