The Lotus Elan is a sports car manufactured by Lotus from 1962-1975. It was the first Lotus to use a steel backbone chassis with a fiberglass body. At 1,500 lb, the Elan is lightweight and has excellent performance. Technologically advanced for its time, the Elan came standard with a twin-cam engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, and 4-wheel independent suspension. The Elan was also the inspiration for the highly successful Mazda MX-5 Miata. Best viewed large.
