This railroad bridge, located a few miles north of Apalachicola, has a unique feature - the center section of the bridge swings open, creating a wide river channel for large ships to pass. Today it is automated and remains open unless there is railroad traffic approaching. For more information on this bridge, see my image and link from yesterday's posting.
Great to see these - thanks Danny, really interesting. I hadn't realise that its default position is open. Makes sense if the rail traffic is light, although does the river get many large ships past that point?
@ivan@yrhenwr Glad you liked the center section. The river gets barge traffic and in the four days I was on the river, I saw barges but no trains. So leaving it in the default open position makes the most sense.
