Here's another one from yesterday's photo shoot that I think is even more Steve McCurry-esque. I think I got the lighting better on this one even though the cloudy skies made the entire day's shooting difficult. If nothing else this challenge has gotten me to learn more about lighting even if I haven't quite figured out how to apply those principles.
Frustratingly, the color of my scarf has been significantly toned down in the uploading process. If I'd realized it would do that I could have made some effort to bump it up in editing or something. This is the first time I've noticed a change although I've heard others complain about loss of color fidelity here. Oh well.
I love your hair! You don't look strange looking directly at the camera either. The lighting in this is good too. I had the hardest time trying to get my photo to have the coloring like Steve's. I'd love to know how he achieves the look of his photos.
I'm ashamed I had to look up Steve McCurry, Can't remember names worth a darn these days... As soon as "That Girl" popped up in an image search: Oh yeah! I do think you managed to channel some McCurry here with the lighting and clarity of the image. Your direct gaze into the lense makes it a strong photo. Nice one!
@lislee75 I know, he must have some sort of secret trick because his colors are just amazing. That and the eyes are what make his portraits for me. And I think I've figured out from this picture that what bugs me the most about these full on shots is my nose. Of all the things I had to inherit from my German grandfather! I should just get over it and embrace my heritage.
@naladka I like the Matrix take on this! After years of my brothers mocking me for my big bug eyes they finally come in handy for these self-portraits. :)
I love 'that photo' and loved to hear about going back to find her. From what I remember, she looked very much older than her 30 years when they found her again. Hard life she's lead.
Your eyes pop in this one, great angle and light too. I find my saturation is messed up when uploading here only when I've had a file in photoshop. If I've just edited in picnik, it is fine (from what I remember anyway).

Great DoF too!
