In this case the excellence of the paintings of Tom Thomson is what I mean. This little tableau represents the way he made his oil on wood sketches out in the bush, which were later used to make larger paintings. The exhibition we saw at the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg this week was wonderful. It seemed wrong to photograph the actual art so I took this picture to represent the artist.
