We decided to scrap the last 60 miles, with the trail conditions being so treacherous and me not having any rear brakes, so we caught the train from Harper's Ferry into DC. One of the results of the government shutdown was a lack of staffing at the Amtrak station, which is normally manned by National Park Rangers. You could still catch the train, but you had to wait outside (in the rain!) and there were no facilities or staff to assist at all.
