Day 3 at St Paul's and the funeral service itself for Margaret Thatcher.
It was a great day. I was able to float about quite a bit, so got to see much of the procession as the morning unfolded, I was even 5 feet away from Prime Minister David Cameron as he went from the BBC studio on foot, and walked past me to the North Door of the cathedral with 6 police officers accompanying him. Strange but cool.
I could have done with a much better lens to pick out some lovely detail but my X20 doesn't quite have the length on it. So as I walked away at the end of the day after an awesome 2-hour derig (not bad for 26 cameras :) I though I'd grab a shot of the dome coupled with one of the front towers.
If you look at the top of the main dome, and look at the railing beneath the set of vertical columns, you can see where I was the day before with my colleague. After checking one of the cameras in the Whispering Gallery we went up the stairs as far as you can go and had a good look out over London. The only way to get higher, was through a locked door. We saw views of the city that you can't buy, and even read graffiti left in walls that has been there since 1729 (longer than the United States have been formed) which makes you think a little bit :)
Certainly an experience to remember, a part of history and I was there. Hopefully I will go again, and for something other than funeral's.
great shot of the dome of St Paul's - re your question about meets, there is a small group of us who get together every now and again - we tried to do a wider one last month but everyone dropped out, so back to the 4 of ius again! Think we might be planning to meet up sometime in May - I'll let you know - or if not, happy to meet up after work one night when i'm in London and we can go for a wander....
@sparkle Thank you Juliette.
And yes I would love to meet up. Either in the group or on your own one evening.
I am working away a lot this summer covering golf events and much of the UK cricket for Sky but there are evenings where I will be in London so could come out on the tube and meet. If you wouldn't mind letting me know of the next scheduled meet that would be great!
