When we first began visiting Charleston, we would drive over the Don Holt Bridge and wonder what that smell was. Later we found out that it is the paper factory. Now I pass it each day on my way to work, the smell is only present if the wind is just so and I am used to it. I love the paper factory - it looks different every time I see it. Early morning light shines on it and it looks like a fairyland. At night it is covered with lovely lights. It sits below the bridge and today I found a place to go where I could see some of it to get a picture. Not the one I want - from the top of the bridge where I can't just stop and take pictures - but from a little neighborhood park. I think I will go back often to take pictures...what a nice way to use my lunch break!
You were able to get a lot in here...and I really envy you living in Charleston area. My son went to College of Charleston, graduated and then stayed there in the Mt Pleasant area. He even got married in the little white church in Mt. Pleasant and had his wedding reception at Alhambra Hall right on Charleston Bay...then they moved to Wilmington, NC, which is very nice...but it sure "ain't" Charleston...Now that I have typed all this, I think I probably told you all this once before!!! If so, sorry about that. Virginia has a big paper mill in West Point, VA...so I know the smell to which you refer...depending on the wind direction the direction from which you are heading into West Point, the smell sometimes greets you way before you get to the town!
