Leg Art

Not a pretty picture but this is how I spent my day yesterday. My daughter had knee surgery and we were at the surgery center from 1 until 7:30. It was a long day and a hard one. She is very healthy and tore her knee up when she fell riding her bike. So as I looked at her in recovery with her eyes swollen and her face red from the tape that had held something in her mouth, I thought of all the people like Bev who have sat in the hospital with their children and wondered if they would live. Just this one day ordeal was so hard on me that I can not imagine what it would be like to have my child in a life or death situation. To have them non responsive. At least when I would speak to her, she would give me a big smile.

Her funny thing (always look for humor) was each time she would come around, she would ask what time it was and then she would panic for a minute about everyone's dinner - worried that we were starved and tired. We would reassure her and then she would relax and go back to LaLa Land for a while.

I am going over to her house this morning and if she is awake we will watch movies. If not, I will do some beading and reading.
What a knee :) Wish her well for me.

It's a difficult thing as a parent to see your child go through things like this, and until you're a parent you will not know exactly what we mean and what it feels like, but it is just not a good feeling. It is comforting that all these procedures are so easy now days, and in no time things are back to normal.

@digitalrn Thanks, Rick, for your words of encouragement. It will be a tough year for her as she is such a naturally active person but she will be fine in 9 to 12 month according to the doctor.

I can't imagine how difficult that must be to feel so helpless. Even though it took longer than expected, I'm glad to hear she came through her surgery okay, and I wish her a speedy recovery.

@melissapike Thanks, Melissa! I am actually borrowing a wheelchair for her. When I sprained my ankle it was a godsend. I can't do crutches and it would be hard to do them drugged like she will be for a few days!
