After a long crossing from Miami we finally reach Bimini in the Bahamas. We stopped on the way, put our anchor out as the water was only 15 feet deep and spent a few hours sleeping and then continued on. It was the strangest thing to be out in the middle of now where and stop for the night but it worked just fine!!
The shells in the picture are conch shells. They eat the meat from them and just toss all the lovely shells away. I asked permission from immigration to take some and they said I could so I went and picked myself some lovely ones!
Beautiful picture, and wonderful story of sleeping in the water wilderness! At the Fisheries Museum (down at the docks) the other day, there was a wonderful 1900s photo of a woman sitting in her front yard, the garden edging made up of conch shells. When you wrote of taking some, I immediately thought of that old picture!
What beautiful water. Suzie, I know we're getting to the end of your beautiful sea adventure, and I've enjoyed the trip very much. How much time was it that you spent from Nova Scotia to the Bahamas? What a great life experience!!!!
I can't imagine how weird it must have been just anchoring up in the middle of nowhere. Works out well that you were both able to get a little sleep before continuing on with your journey though. Look at that huge pile of conchs! Now I'm craving conch fritters in the worst way!
Just stunning!
