Urban landscape... by streats

Urban landscape...

Sometimes it ain't pretty.... But I kind of like it anyway.

Best viewed large if you have the inclination to do so.

It shows great skills to make something which is not obviously beautiful into an intesting shot and you have achieved it wonderfully. Great processing and composition. Love it!

@savannah51 Thanks Sharon, I'm not sure what the cylinders are, they're solid concrete though. I imagine they serve a practical purpose though as well as an aesthetic one, which would be typical of the design of this estate.

@ch1ppy_m1nton Thanks Chippy, I love these urban landscapes I think they have a beauty in their own right, although I think I'd much prefer the landscapes @zambianlass gets to see every day !

@adventuringowls It's true, the image does make it look abandoned, but it's actually a really expensive area to live in the centre of the financial district, London. The estate was built in the 1960's and is also a major arts and theatre / cinema complex with schools and a music academy all on site. I've found since starting my project it's so full of interesting photographic opportunities. It's a place that divides opinions though, some consider it all a mass of ugly concrete and others find it quite beautiful in a way. I'm of the latter opinion !

I like the processing and the scene here! I find your pictures very interesting :)
July 25th, 2013
This has an interesting feel to it. The processing really complements it!

This one is pretty in it's own way. Great composition and processing! A Fav for me.

I don't know why but this makes me think of the film 1984. Super composition and repetition and the processing is most apt. If I'm honest I probably belong to the group who find it a bit of a mass of ugly concrete but that said it certainly does have an attraction when represented in this way.

Very cool shot! I love your processing. There is something emotive about empty chairs to me. Add the stark shapes and lines and the whole shot has a powerful, somewhat dark, feeling to it. Not sure I am expressing this well, but anyway, I like it!
July 26th, 2013
It may not be pretty in a traditional sense but it is a great capture. Great processing. Really emphasizes the lines and shapes.
July 26th, 2013
Interesting shapes and lines, Ian. I like the processing.

@paulaw Interesting that it reminds you of the 1984 film, I guess it was part of that new wave of thinking though in the 60's and 70's on what an urban landscape and a kind of utopia should look like, a new way of living. I'm glad you like the way I've represented it. Thank you :-)

@pflaume Perfectly expressed Lisa and I know exactly what you mean. It's kind of the feeling I had in mind when taking the shot and even more so when processing it. The estate lends itself so well to this type of image. Even though by complete contrast it's actually such an expensive place ! Thank you for your thoughtful comments :-)
