a Mormon cricket (Anabrus simplex). There's quite a few of these crickets around this summer.

I had to consult Mr Google abut these type of crickets, I'd never heard of them

Well I thought that's what it was because the local news reported lots of Mormon crickets this summer, but after googling myself, I'm now thinking it was likely a differential grasshopper (Melanoplus differentialis) @kjarn
