The Purple Finches [Carpodacus purpureus] are back at our deck as of a week or so ago. This male stayed around much of the morning. The Purple Finch is the bird that Roger Tory Peterson famously described as a “sparrow dipped in raspberry juice.”
May 1 was day 4 of a massive power outage in our region so I've chosen a pic from two days earlier, when I still had some energy (both me and the camera!) to take pics.
