Busy

We came across this huge Snapping Turtle laying her eggs on the shoulder of a dirt road! It looked very much like at least one friend had just laid eggs beside her. There were a couple of disturbed areas in the very wet gravel, with obvious signs of a turtle trek down to the creek running beside the road. Rain ... and more rain. Enough already!

Many thanks for dropping by!
Excellent portrait of this guy. (gal!!) I like turtles, but I guess these can really snap~

@mimigd Yes, you're right, Mimi, I wasn't anxious to help her clean the leaves off her nose. :)

That's so funny...I was just thinking it would be so hard to resist taking that stuff off of her face...but then, so NOT worth it! :-) Great find Anne! This is a great shot!

Gosh, I have not seen a snapping turtle this large for a long time. I hope she got the eggs laid and was able to make it back to the creek without incidents.

Great shot! We have lots of turtles trying to cross the roads here. I saw a guy who had pulled over today and he kept kicking the turtle lightly to get him to turn around. Must have been a snapping turtle too. Now I know what they look like

@elzibell thanks Elzibel! There's a little hook-like protrusion under their chin, which is not very visible in this pic. We saw a few more turtles today. They're sure active these days!
