The Grosbeaks are Back! by sunnygreenwood

The Grosbeaks are Back!

So now the fun begins with the sunflower seed consumption! The Evening Grosbeaks are back! About a dozen of them have been here on two different days, in the last week or so. They're probably scouts for the hundred plus we had for a few months the past few winters. They descend onto the deck each morning and eat us out of house and home.

This one's a female, with much the same colouring as the American Goldfinch's winter coat, but she's much bigger. Their faces are quite mean looking, I find. The male has totally different colouring.

Many thanks for dropping by! I'm glad you liked the wee Goldfinch pic posted yesterday! They sure are fluffy on cold days.

ps. The little white streaks are snow flakes!
Nice clear shot.

Super catch!! He does look a little angry . . but he certainly is beautiful. My sister feeds the birds and it costs her a fortune. But she loves to see the beauty and the entertainment.

Nice closeup capture. We don't have birds like this one. I bet of flock of them would consume a lot of sunflower seed.
